History of Slovenia
The lands of Slovenia lay in Austrian Hapsburg hands from 1277 AD to almost 1918. During that time, visionary Reformation leader Primoz Trubar arose, helping to develop the Slovene language with the conviction that men should be able to read the Bible in their own language. After the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918, Slovenia joined the Kingdom of the Serbs, the Croats, and the Slovenians which in 1929 became known as Yugoslavia. At the end of WWII, Slovenia imbibed the Socialist philosophies of Communism until they seceded from Yugoslavia in 1989 triggering the breakup of the artificial nation. Today, there are only about 1000 biblical Christians in the nation and the need for hundreds of new leaders and churches abounds.
