History of Albania Albania came under Roman Rule for centuries and fell to the governed by the Eastern half of the Empire upon the division in AD 395. From the 1600s to the early 20th Century, Albania fell into the hands of Ottoman rule. In 1913, the European Great Powers endorsed an independent Albania, but after WWII, the small nation fell prey to the Communist regimes of the region. In 1989, Communism fell and the Albania of today began to emerge. Spiritually speaking, the nation is very Muslim and Orthodox Christian which is very similar to Catholicism. The Communist during their years had claimed that they had established the perfect Communist state driving out nearly all faiths. The work is great there today and the needs are plenteous for all who might venture there.
